Your adventure begins early as you leave Marrakech behind and travel through the High Atlas Mountains. With the iconic Tizi n’Tichka Pass being the first highlight of your journey. This mountain pass offers incredible views of the valleys and surrounding landscapes, making it a perfect spot to stop for photos. As you make your way through Berber villages nestled in the mountains, you’ll get a glimpse into the everyday life of local people.
After passing through the pass. You’ll arrive at Ouarzazate, a town that has earned the title of “Hollywood of Morocco.” It’s famous for its film studios and historical kasbahs. You’ll visit the Atlas Film Studios, where major films like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia were filmed. You can also explore the Taourirt Kasbah, one of the region’s most beautiful and best-preserved kasbahs, offering insight into Morocco’s architectural history. Afterward, you’ll have some time to relax at your hotel or riad in Ouarzazate and enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner.
On the second day, after breakfast. Your journey takes you toward the Skoura Oasis, which is known for its lush palm groves and numerous kasbahs. One of the most impressive of these is Kasbah Amridil. Which is often used in photographs and films. After exploring Skoura. You’ll head through the Valley of Roses, a region famous for its rose cultivation. In springtime, the valley is awash with the vibrant colors and fragrances of blooming roses, but even at other times of the year, it offers a stunning view.
Continuing along the scenic route, you will arrive at the Dades Valley. Known for its dramatic rock formations. After a short walk through the valley, you’ll make your way to a local guesthouse or hotel, where you’ll stay overnight.
On Day 3, you will continue your journey towards Tinghir, a town surrounded by lush date palms and dramatic views of the High Atlas Mountains. From here, you’ll head to the famous Todra Gorge, a narrow canyon with towering cliffs rising up to 300 meters. The gorge is a popular spot for trekkers, rock climbers, and photographers, offering a chance to take a leisurely walk through its cool, shaded paths. After taking in the incredible views, you will continue on your way to Merzouga, a small town that sits on the edge of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, the beginning of the Sahara Desert.
As the day winds down, you’ll embark on a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes, allowing you to witness a spectacular desert sunset over the golden sands. Once you arrive at your desert camp, you’ll enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner while being serenaded by Berber music and surrounded by a star-filled sky. Overnight in a desert camp will be an unforgettable experience.
Day 4 is dedicated entirely to exploring the Merzouga desert and the surrounding area. After waking up early to catch the mesmerizing sunrise over the dunes, you’ll return to your camp for a hearty breakfast before setting out to explore the desert further. You’ll take a 4×4 excursion to visit Khamlia village, where you can enjoy a performance of Gnawa music, a musical tradition that originated with enslaved Africans brought to Morocco centuries ago.
It’s a soulful, rhythmic music that you can’t miss! From here, you will also visit nomadic Berber families, giving you a chance to learn about their desert lifestyle, including how they survive in such an arid environment. If you’re up for more adventure, you can also try sandboarding on the dunes or take an ATV ride to get a unique perspective of the vast desert landscape. Return to your camp or hotel in the evening to enjoy a second desert sunset, a memorable dinner, and a peaceful night under the stars.
On Day 5, you’ll leave Merzouga behind and head further south to Tazarine, a small desert town known for its stunning surrounding landscapes and palm groves. From here, your journey continues toward Zagora, a town nestled in the Draa Valley. A region that is rich in history and home to some of Morocco’s most beautiful kasbahs. The Draa Valley is a lush area of palm groves and oases, contrasting sharply with the arid desert landscapes. Zagora is famous for its “Tombouctou” sign, which marks the distance to the legendary city of Timbuktu, some 52 days’ camel ride away. This unique sign has become a symbol of the connection between Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa. You’ll have the evening to relax, enjoy a traditional dinner. And stay overnight in a riad or guesthouse in Zagora.
On your final day, you’ll depart Zagora and head back north, traveling through the stunning Draa Valley with its expansive palm groves and ancient kasbahs. Your first stop will be Ouarzazate, where you’ll have a chance to stretch your legs and grab a bite to eat. After a brief stop, you will continue the scenic drive over the High Atlas Mountains, with a final stop at Tizi n’Tichka Pass, which offers beautiful views of the valleys below. As you descend into Marrakech. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or riad, completing your 6-day desert adventure.
